Jimmy Fallon's "Late Night" house band, The Roots, caused a bit of a controversy Tuesday night. Even though it wasn't obvious to people who didn't know the little-known song at the time, when Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachman walked out onstage, the band chose the 1987 Fishbone song "Lyin' Ass Bitch" to greet her. While sounding out of place, the intro only had the lyrics of "la la la la" and was not recognized until after the show, when Jimmy Fallon apologized, tweeting "@questlove is grounded." ?uestlove is the drummer/band leader for The Roots. There are articles and video about it at Pitchfork, Spin, and Huffington Post. In ?uestlove's defense, FreakOutNation has compiled a list of some of the lies/misstatements Bachman has made lately.

I think Rep. Lowey (D-NY) said it best: "I do not share Michele Bachmann's politics, but she deserves to be treated with respect. No female politician - and no woman - should be subjected to sexist and offensive innuendo like she was last night," she added. No matter how much of an idiot Bachmann is, ?uestlove came across as a bigger idiot. There was nothing clever about this, just a cheap shot.
